Community Choir has a new leader
Adamsdown Arts Assocaition (A3)’s Adams-up festival three years ago, saw the founding of the Adamsdown Community Choir, under the tutelage of Ruth Bradshaw, a local choir leader.  Ruth has now decided to hand over the reins to another talented Adamsdown resident Sian Donovan, who has been awarded the position after a series of auditions. Sian says “I am thrilled, it’s going to be very exciting!” If you have ever thought about joining a choir or just love to sing now is a great time to join! The choir is small and friendly and will be working on new material, new members are always made very welcome. Currently funded by the Arts Council of Wales, choir practice is every Tuesday 6:30 to 7:30pm at the Resource Centre, 10G Moira Terrace.

The group is open to all residents from Adamsdown, Splott, Tremorfa and Plasnewydd. Find us on Facebook - to find out more search ‘Adamsdown Community Choir’.

The Adamsdown Museum
The Adamsdown Museum Project makes front page

There was a positive reception for the Adamsdown Museum launch. With submissions from the local community of Adamsdown related art works, prints, paintings, photography and memorabilia featured, there was a real sense of pride for the local area with an art based theme included throughout.

The event gave a informed view of Adamsdown through the ages, a good contrast between how the younger and older generations view the area and how our community has became to be. The local community provided their old photographs, their stories and Adamsdown related objects to document the history of Adamsdown.

This was further celebrated by being present during the this months edition of the Lo-down magazine, grabbing the front page. This event couldn't have been possible if not for the hard work made by the Adamsdowns Arts Association and many volunteers, and would like to thank them for their hard work.

The group - a lobbying, advocacy and research group working with refugee women and their families - meets at the Adamsdown Resource Centre on Moira Terrace twice a month, and have produced the book in partnership with Cardiff’s Ethnic Minority Communities First team. Adamsdown Kids Run, Jump, Throw Better

Children from Adamsdown’s three primary schools were given the chance to take part in a special athletics tournament at UWIC’s Cyncoed Campus on Thursday 3rd March.

Led by volunteer coaches, aged from 15-26, the schools were invited to ‘Run, Jump and Throw’ in an event that marked the end of a six week project organised by UWIC’s First Campus programme, Adamsdown Communities First and Welsh Athletics.

The scheme offered a chance for young people to be trained as coaches and lead lunch time and after school sports clubs in the community. The volunteers come from all backgrounds - at school, unemployed or working - and have all given their free time to make the project a success. Run Jump Throw was designed to introduce athletics in a fun and engaging way. Pupils from Adamsdown, Stacey Road and Tredegarville primary schools took part.

The volunteers were fantastic! Some only left primary school a couple of years ago and had very little experience as coaches, but they are now being seen as role models by the children. Nico Maughan won an award for most improved coach, with Kieron Ullah and Oscar Toppo named runners up.Overall winners at the event were Stacey Road School, while Tredegarville were second.
