During the Easter break Saturday’s Homework Club undertook two fun-filled learning and activity day trips. The children visited the National Museum of Wales in Cathays Park, where they walked around the newly opened “discovery” exhibition, they also took part in the science workshops where they used creative craft to make representations of bacteria.
On their second trip the children visited Roath Park to do some bird watching. They had a learning workshop before they left to help them identify the different species of birds around the lake. All in all it was a fun packed Easter holiday at Homework Club!

Anti-dog fouling campaign
Our campaign to tackle the issue of dog fouling has been launched. Adamsdown Communities First has invited artist Bill Taylor-Beales to head up the campaign working with schools, local shops and residents. The campaign will involve the whole community in raising awareness of the dangers and issues attached to this anti-social problem. Bill's idea is create a positive impact with a cartoon character, "Megan!!" - based on his real live pet Labrador - who will take an active part in the campaign herself.Bill is partnering with the Dogs Trust to run a lively series of assemblies in primary schools packed with singing, live art, two dogs and even air guitar. Pupils are treated to interactive dog awareness workshops with the Dogs Trust and cartoon art workshops with Bill - inviting the pupils to create their own comic strips based on the humorous antics of the dog and her owners.Pupils are taking part in a competition to create the best comic strip. Each one will bear the campaign slogan: ‘Any Bag, and a Bin, Scoop it, Tie it, Drop it in’. The winning cartoons will be featured as part of a major publicity campaign in local news, Lo Down, online, in shop windows, on public display boards, a billboard and even in a music video on the giant TV screens in the city centre.
Alongside this every house will receive free dog bags, window stickers and leaflets with info on how to deal with and report dog fouling. Funded by Tidy Towns, the campaign has a two-pronged attack. One will be the cute cartoons, posters and school workshops and the other will be working with residents who want to see a cleaner neighbourhood.

Art-y-Park
It has been a long 9 months but finally the day has arrived and the 2nd of October saw the arrival of a brand new and very exciting edition to the Adamsdown family. ART-Y-PARK is it’s name and Anderson Fields is where it can be found.
Last year the Adamsdown EAG asked the all the local residents what they would love to see in the green area at the rear of Anderson Fields. There followed several consultations and hundreds of drawings and ideas from every age group in the community were looked at and discussed.
Time Tracks
The call went out for five professional artists to come together and collaborate on themed instillation to occupy the Anderson Fields site. The team was made of a sculptor, a photographer, a graffiti artist and two ceramicists. We asked them to be inspired by the site and to bring into the design process all the creative ideas of the local community. The artists then set up a marathon of workshops with all ages and abilities to develop the ideas and create the works of art. The result is a dynamic mixture of media and themes that come together in the form of the ‘Time Track’ with totems, stepping stones and speeding trains!
Cosmic Collision
The environmental charity Groundwork took on the commission for an imaginative play area that took onboard all the ideas, especially the children’s paintings, to create a stellar piece of art. The ‘Cosmic Collision’ is actually a scale representation of the solar system. You will see a large stone playing the role of the sun and then 8 smaller stones planted in the park to play the parts of planets.
Natures Skyline
Local sculptor Brian Denman was selected by the community to create a hand carved entrance to the park and many residents have had a hand in helping create this unique installation.

Friends of Art-y-Park
We are hoping to set up a friends of group for the space. Basically a ‘Friends Of’ group is a collection of interested residents who will work closely with the Park Rangers and the Adamsdown Communities First project to help maintain what is in place and look at creative ways to continue developing the area.
We will help guide you through the process of getting involved with the Friends of Anderson Fields group and we will all work together to ensure that this very unique and community conscious park is kept safe and family friendly.

Bill Taylor-Beales
New chair & vice chair
The long standing chair of the Forum (our LPG), Canon Roy Doxsey, who had been involved in the project since its inception back in 2002, recently relinquished his role due to his upcoming retirement. Vice chair (also since 2002) Rob Parr also stood down at our AGM in July. Both have been offered honourary life positions on the forum, in recognition of their many years of hard work and commitment. Local residents Patricia Barrera and Leslie Herman were elected as our new chair and vice chair, and unveiled at our AGM. Both have been heavily involved with the project’s work over the past few years and promise to bring a wealth of new ideas and endeavour to their roles.On behalf of the community, the forum and the project staff we would like to formally thank Fr Roy and Rob for their long and loyal service and never ending commitment to the project over the last nine years. Without them and their leadership we would not have the vibrant project we have today. Fr Roy has been involved in many projects improving the environment, working with the schools and different faith groups to bring all sections of the community together as one. His campaigning and leadership are inspirational and I am sure will continue in his new role. Rob has been solid and dependable throughout assisting with consultations, work plans and community events. Committed to community safety issues and former chairman of PACT meetings which I am sure will continue into the future.
