In and around Adamsdown
Out Fox-ing the Fly Tippers
Cardiff’s network of lanes criss-cross the city. Fox Lane, which runs from Adamsdown to Splott has had its fair share of anti-social issues; fly tipping, drug use among other things, prompting local residents to take action and petition for it to be gated. With the backing of local councillors, this is happening.

In the meantime however, residents have been given a boost with funding from Tidy Towns to improve the lane area whilst waiting for the gates to arrive. Overseen by the team at Adamsdown Communities First, local artists and graphic  designers will work with volunteers from the Environmental Action Group for a spruce-up Fox Lane’ series of weekends. Calling on residents and local children, the aim is to paint the neglected facades backing onto the lane - forming a patchwork of colours, which will form a series of murals featuring a wandering fox and wildlife.

Take a Green Walk around Adamsdown

Adamsdown Communities First and the local Environmental Action Group organised a "green walk" on Sunday 13th September as part of a Green Mapping project of the locality. The walk started at the Adamsdown Resource Centre, 10g Moira Terrace and took in all the parks and green spaces, finishing up in a local pub for Sunday dinner.

The afternoon was great fun and also gave people the chance to get to know their area a little better. Throughout the walk people were encouraged to take photos of the parts of Adamsdown they like and to map out the bits that could change for the better.

The group is trying to put together a visual and exciting picture of Adamsdown showing all the wonderful green spaces the area has to offer as well as highlighting places that could be developed, with the hope of encouraging the whole community to make better use of them. The resulting photos will be put on display on the big digital screen that is located outside of St David’s Hall in the heart of Cardiff, and will be used to create a printed map and interactive website.

Green Mapping is part of a global movement that was created in 1995 has spread to over 550 cities, towns and villages in 54 countries, there are currently only two mapped areas in Cardiff – the other being Butetown.

Some of the pictures taking during the walk will be on this site shortly...
